The Tasting Days continues to be one of the most interesting events (in my opinion…) dedicated to the world of spirits. It all takes place in the small and incredibly welcoming region of Vorarlberg. A fair that is still young but already well-structured, bringing together producers, independent bottlers and enthusiasts in an accessible and informal setting.
The event is held in the town of Götzis, in a strategic location, a stone’s throw from Switzerland and Germany. A detail that is also reflected in the variety of exhibitors present.
a winning formula
The formula for the Tasting Days is clear: tasting stands, direct contact with producers and a programme of dedicated masterclasses.
Unlike larger fairs, the atmosphere here remains manageable. More intimate, shall we say. This allows you to talk to producers and bottlers, ask questions and explore the products at your leisure.
The masterclasses are another highlight, offering the chance to delve deeper into distilleries, cask selection and production philosophies.
exhibitors and selection
The range of exhibitors is varied and well-balanced.
Alongside international names such as the Cotswolds and Koval distilleries, there are independent bottlers and smaller projects, often less well-known but very interesting in terms of quality.
Among these, it is worth mentioning names such as The Cask Hound, as well as the presence of clubs and groups of enthusiasts, such as the Malt Friends of Vienna, who offer special selections and bottles that are hard to find on the market.
Also of interest is the presence of local producers and regional businesses, such as the German distillery Dis One, which help to give the event a further sense of identity.
tastings and different approaches
In terms of tastings, the range on offer is extensive.
It spans from classic Scottish single malts to less conventional interpretations: rye whiskies with unique finishes, artisanal productions with distinctive approaches, such as the use of specific woods for smoking (for example, beech).
This makes the visit interesting both for those new to the experience and for more seasoned enthusiasts looking for something different.
Among the most interesting tastings of the day, one in particular stood out: Ardnahoe Cask Strength, presented as a new release at the Potstill stand. A whisky with an intense and direct profile that left its mark. Not that I expected anything less from Ardnahoe.
the role of people
One of the aspects that stands out most strongly is the human side of the event.
Beyond the tasting, there is the opportunity to engage directly with those who select or produce the spirits, delving into stories, choices and approaches. An element present at many fairs, but one that feels particularly natural in a more intimate setting like this.
From an organisational point of view, too, there is a distinct personal touch, with a greater focus on the quality of the experience than on large numbers, as explained by Benedikt, one of the organisers.

The Götzis Tasting Days represent a genuine highlight in the world of spirits events.
The combination of a compact scale, a good selection of exhibitors and a truly positive atmosphere makes for an unforgettable experience.

I Tasting Days si confermano come uno degli eventi più interessanti (a parer mio…) dedicati al mondo dei distillati. Il tutto si svolge nella piccola e cordialissima regione del Vorarlberg. Una fiera ancora giovane, ma già ben strutturata, che riunisce produttori, imbottigliatori indipendenti e appassionati in un contesto accessibile e diretto.
L’evento si tiene nella cittadina di Götzis, in una posizione strategica, a due passi da Svizzera e Germania. Un dettaglio che si riflette anche nella varietà degli espositori presenti.
Un format semplice che funziona
La formula dei Tasting Days è chiara: stand di degustazione, contatto diretto con i produttori e un programma di masterclass dedicate.
A differenza di fiere più grandi, qui l’atmosfera resta gestibile. Più intima, se vogliamo. Questo permette di parlare con produttori e imbottigliatori, fare domande e approfondire i prodotti in tutta calma.
Le masterclass rappresentano un ulteriore punto di interesse, offrendo la possibilità di entrare più nel dettaglio su distillerie, selezione delle botti e filosofie produttive.
Espositori e selezione
La presenza di espositori è varia e ben bilanciata.
Accanto a realtà internazionali come le distillerie Cotswolds e Koval, si trovano imbottigliatori indipendenti e progetti più piccoli, spesso meno conosciuti ma molto interessanti dal punto di vista qualitativo.
Tra questi, vale la pena citare realtà come The Cask Hound, così come la presenza di club e gruppi di appassionati, come i Malt Friends di Vienna, che propongono selezioni particolari e bottiglie difficilmente reperibili sul mercato.
Interessante anche la presenza di produttori locali e realtà della regione, come la distilleria tedesca Dis One, che contribuiscono a dare ulteriore identità all’evento.
Degustazioni e approcci diversi
Dal punto di vista delle degustazioni, l’offerta è ampia.
Si passa dai classici single malt scozzesi ad interpretazioni meno convenzionali: rye whiskey con finiture particolari, produzioni artigianali con approcci distintivi, come l'utilizzo di legni specifici per l'affumicatura (ad esempio il faggio).
Questo rende la visita interessante sia per chi è alle prime esperienze, sia per appassionati più esperti alla ricerca di qualcosa di diverso.
Tra gli assaggi più interessanti della giornata, uno in particolare si è distinto: Ardnahoe Cask Strength, proposto come novità allo stand di Potstill. Un whisky con un profilo intenso e diretto che ha lasciato il segno. Non che mi aspettassi altro da casa Ardnahoe.
Il ruolo delle persone
Uno degli aspetti che emerge con più forza è il lato umano dell’evento.
Al di là della degustazione, c’è la possibilità di confrontarsi direttamente con chi seleziona o produce i distillati, approfondendo storie, scelte e approcci. Un elemento presente in molte fiere, ma che in un contesto più raccolto come questo risulta particolarmente naturale.
Anche dal punto di vista organizzativo si percepisce un’impronta personale, con un’attenzione più alla qualità dell’esperienza che ai grandi numeri, come raccontato da Benedikt, uno degli organizzatori.
Considerazioni finali
I Tasting Days di Götzis rappresentano una realtà autentica nel panorama degli eventi dedicati ai distillati.
La combinazione tra dimensioni contenute, una buona selezione di espositori e un’atmosfera davvero positiva, rende l’esperienza indimenticabile.
Per chi si trova nella regione o nelle aree limitrofe, è sicuramente un evento da tenere in considerazione.

Das Ganze findet in der kleinen und überaus gastfreundlichen Region Vorarlberg statt. Eine noch junge, aber bereits gut strukturierte Messe, die Hersteller, unabhängige Abfüller und Liebhaber in einem zugänglichen und unkomplizierten Rahmen zusammenbringt.
Die Veranstaltung findet in der Kleinstadt Götzis statt, in strategisch günstiger Lage, nur einen Katzensprung von der Schweiz und Deutschland entfernt. Ein Detail, das sich auch in der Vielfalt der anwesenden Aussteller widerspiegelt.
Ein Erfolgsrezept
Das Konzept der Tasting Days ist klar: Verkostungsstände, direkter Kontakt zu den Herstellern und ein Programm mit speziellen Masterclasses.
Im Gegensatz zu größeren Messen bleibt die Atmosphäre hier überschaubar. Intimer, wenn man so will. Das ermöglicht es, mit Herstellern und Abfüllern zu sprechen, Fragen zu stellen und sich in aller Ruhe mit den Produkten auseinanderzusetzen.
Die Masterclasses stellen einen weiteren Höhepunkt dar und bieten die Möglichkeit, tiefer in die Details zu Brennereien, der Fassauswahl und den Produktionsphilosophien einzutauchen.
Aussteller und Auswahl
Die Ausstellerpalette ist vielfältig und ausgewogen.
Neben internationalen Namen wie den Brennereien Cotswolds und Koval finden sich unabhängige Abfüller und kleinere Projekte, die oft weniger bekannt, aber qualitativ sehr interessant sind.
Unter diesen sind Unternehmen wie The Cask Hound erwähnenswert, ebenso wie die Anwesenheit von Clubs und Liebhabergruppen wie den Malt Friends aus Wien, die besondere Auswahlen und auf dem Markt kaum erhältliche Flaschen anbieten.

Ein Whisky mit einem intensiven und direkten Profil, der Eindruck hinterlassen hat. Nicht, dass ich von Ardnahoe etwas anderes erwartet hätte.

Ein Element, das auf vielen Messen vorhanden ist, das aber in einem intimeren Rahmen wie diesem besonders natürlich wirkt.
Auch aus organisatorischer Sicht spürt man eine persönliche Note, wobei der Fokus eher auf der Qualität des Erlebnisses als auf großen Zahlen liegt, wie Benedikt, einer der Organisatoren, berichtet.
