WHISKY TOUR CATANIA
There’s something truly special about Catania.
In my opinion, this Sicilian city perfectly embodies the duality of our world.
Its chaotic, noisy streets harbor a harmony that’s hard to describe. It’s a city that seems to constantly teeter on the edge of contrast: the sea and Mount Etna, the clamor of the markets and the silence of the squares at sunset, the apparent disorder and a beauty that emerges precisely from it.
Perhaps this is precisely what makes it so charming.
And perhaps this is also why, just when we least expect to find places to savor a good whiskey, Catania manages to surprise us once again.
The aim of our “Whisky Tours” series remains the same: to explore the whisky culture of the cities we visit and, stop by stop, build a small guide dedicated to the places where a good dram is still served with passion.
Unfortunately, whisky culture isn’t very widespread in Sicily. That’s why our expectations were rather modest. There isn’t a real “scene” like the one you’d find in many other European cities. Yet, between a stroll through the historic center and sampling Catania’s culinary specialties, we discovered two spots that are definitely worth a visit.
THE BOOZER - BRITISH PUB
A quiet and casual British pub, just a short walk from Piazza del Duomo, with a very respectable selection of single malts from Scotland’s main regions.
If you’re looking for a cozy spot to enjoy a good dram before continuing your evening, you could hardly ask for a better start.

BOHEME - MIXOLOGY BAR
An elegant and refined venue that boasts what is likely the city’s finest selection of whiskey. From the core range to some interesting limited editions, the selection will satisfy both newcomers and the most seasoned enthusiasts.
Rounding out the experience is a friendly and knowledgeable staff, always ready to recommend the perfect dram to suit your tastes.
Of course, the journey couldn’t be limited to just whisky. Catania also reveals itself through its culinary delights and that unique atmosphere you breathe in while strolling around Piazza del Duomo.

Catania ha qualcosa di veramente speciale.
A parer mio, la città siciliana incarna perfettamente la dualità del nostro mondo.
Le sue vie, caotiche e rumorose, custodiscono un'armonia difficile da descrivere. È una città che sembra vivere costantemente sul filo del contrasto: il mare e l’Etna, il frastuono dei mercati e il silenzio delle piazze al tramonto, il disordine apparente e una bellezza che emerge proprio da esso.
Forse è proprio questo il suo fascino.
E forse è anche per questo che, proprio quando non ci aspettiamo di trovare luoghi dove assaporare un buon whisky, Catania riesce ancora una volta a sorprenderci.
Lo scopo della nostra serie “Whisky Tours” rimane lo stesso: esplorare la cultura del whisky delle città che visitiamo e costruire, tappa dopo tappa, una piccola guida dedicata ai luoghi dove un buon dram viene ancora servito con passione.
Purtroppo, la cultura del whisky in Sicilia non è molto diffusa. Ragion per cui le nostre aspettative erano piuttosto contenute. Non esiste una vera e propria “scena" come quella che si può trovare in molte altre città europee. Eppure, tra una passeggiata nel centro storico e le specialità della cucina catanese, abbiamo scoperto due locali che meritano assolutamente una visita.
The Boozer
Un tranquillo e informale British Pub, a pochi passi da Piazza del Duomo, con una rispettabilissima selezione di single malt provenienti dalle principali regioni della Scozia.
Se cerchi un ambiente accogliente dove concederti un buon dram prima di proseguire la serata, difficilmente potresti desiderare un inizio migliore.
Bohéme
Un locale elegante e raffinato, che vanta probabilmente la migliore selezione di whisky della città. Dal core range ad alcune interessanti edizioni limitate, la scelta saprà soddisfare sia i neofiti che gli appassionati più esperti.
A completare l'esperienza, uno staff cordiale e preparato, sempre pronto a consigliarti il dram più adatto ai tuoi gusti.
Naturalmente, il viaggio non poteva limitarsi al whisky. Catania si racconta anche attraverso le sue prelibatezze culinarie e quell'atmosfera unica che si respira passeggiando attorno a Piazza del Duomo.

Catania hat etwas ganz Besonderes an sich.
Meiner Meinung nach verkörpert diese sizilianische Stadt perfekt die Dualität unserer Welt.
Ihre chaotischen und lauten Straßen bergen eine Harmonie, die schwer zu beschreiben ist. Es ist eine Stadt, die ständig im Spannungsfeld der Gegensätze zu leben scheint: das Meer und der Ätna, der Trubel der Märkte und die Stille der Plätze bei Sonnenuntergang, die scheinbare Unordnung und eine Schönheit, die gerade daraus entsteht.
Vielleicht liegt genau darin ihr Reiz.
Und vielleicht ist es auch deshalb so, dass Catania uns gerade dann wieder einmal überrascht, wenn wir gar nicht damit rechnen, Orte zu finden, an denen man einen guten Whisky genießen kann.
Das Ziel unserer Reihe „Whisky Tours“ bleibt dasselbe: die Whisky-Kultur der Städte, die wir besuchen, zu erkunden und Etappe für Etappe einen kleinen Reiseführer zu erstellen, der den Orten gewidmet ist, an denen ein guter Dram noch immer mit Leidenschaft serviert wird.
Leider ist die Whisky-Kultur in Sizilien nicht sehr verbreitet. Aus diesem Grund waren unsere Erwartungen eher gedämpft. Es gibt keine richtige „Szene“, wie man sie in vielen anderen europäischen Städten findet. Und doch haben wir zwischen einem Spaziergang durch die Altstadt und den Spezialitäten der katanesischen Küche zwei Lokale entdeckt, die auf jeden Fall einen Besuch wert sind.

Ein ruhiger und ungezwungener britischer Pub, nur wenige Schritte von der Piazza del Duomo entfernt, mit einer sehr respektablen Auswahl an Single Malts aus den wichtigsten Regionen Schottlands.
Wenn du ein gemütliches Ambiente suchst, um dir vor dem weiteren Abendverlauf ein gutes Glas zu gönnen, könntest du dir kaum einen besseren Start wünschen.

Ein elegantes und raffiniertes Lokal, das wahrscheinlich die beste Whisky-Auswahl der Stadt vorweisen kann. Vom Kernsortiment bis hin zu einigen interessanten limitierten Auflagen – die Auswahl wird sowohl Neulinge als auch erfahrene Liebhaber zufriedenstellen.
Abgerundet wird das Erlebnis durch ein freundliches und kompetentes Team, das dir jederzeit gerne den für deinen Geschmack am besten geeigneten Whisky empfiehlt.
Natürlich konnte sich die Reise nicht nur auf Whisky beschränken. Catania erzählt seine Geschichte auch durch seine kulinarischen Köstlichkeiten und jene einzigartige Atmosphäre, die man bei einem Spaziergang rund um die Piazza del Duomo spürt.
