the claymore whisky club's summer event 2026

On July 10, we held our traditional summer party, one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the year. For the second year in a row, we were guests of the Markart family, who welcomed us with the generosity and hospitality we’ve come to know so well.

Those who follow my channel already know Hans Peter (or simply H.P.) who stars in some of our content alongside his wife, Anita. Both are true Islay pilgrims, and without fail, every trip to the island ends with a little surprise destined to enrich my collection. Some time ago, I wrote about one such moment in the article “The Value of a Small Gesture,” because it’s often the simplest acts of kindness that reveal the true spirit of the community.

The evening also featured a special guest: Markus Heinze, Brand Ambassador for William Grant & Sons, who has previously appeared in one of our videos and was recently honored with the prestigious title of Keeper of the Quaich, one of the most important accolades in the world of Scotch whisky.

His presence brought with it a truly extraordinary selection of bottles. Among them were some genuine rarities, such as the Glenfiddich 16 Years Old Aston Martin Formula One Team Edition, The Balvenie 25 Years Old, and the famous Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix.

Rather than listing every single bottle, I’d prefer to let the photographs speak for themselves, showcasing the variety and exceptional nature of the tasting.

As has become the Club’s tradition, after the welcome speech by our “Clan Chief” Rudi and before Markus took the floor, I picked up the bagpipes to officially kick off the evening.

I don’t particularly like talking about myself, but there’s something special about the bagpipes. Their sound immediately evokes Scotland, the Highlands, and the history that has accompanied whisky for centuries.

The bottles present that evening undoubtedly deserved a chapter of their own. Some are now hard to come by, while others are true collector’s items. Yet, it would be reductive to remember this evening solely for the value or rarity of the whiskies tasted.

What makes the Claymore Whisky Club special is the spirit with which each bottle is uncorked. No one keeps a rare whisky just to show it off: the greatest pleasure is sharing it with friends.

Every dram sparked a conversation, a memory, a travel story, or an anecdote connected to Scotland. This is the true privilege: being able to savor extraordinary whiskies surrounded by people who share the same passion.

Even the brief moment with the bagpipes sprang from this spirit. It wasn’t meant to be a performance, but simply a tribute to Scottish traditions and the bond that unites us all through whisky.

The Claymore Whisky Club’s summer party ended as every great evening should: with plenty of smiles, new stories to tell, and the certainty that the most precious memory won’t be of a particularly rare bottle, but of the people with whom we had the pleasure of sharing it.

A heartfelt thank you to the Markart family and everyone who attended for making this evening so special.

And of course, thank you to you for deciding to share the story of this wonderful day with us. Slàinte! 🥃
